A Bucket List means different things to different people. To me, a Bucket List is a list of things I want to do before I die. I don’t know whether the experiences I hope to have and things I wish to do before I die will eventually end up as a happy memory or not but I think the point of a bucket list is to motivate yourself to do things you think have a place only in your dreams.
Without much further ado, these are the items I have on my bucket list so far.
- Attend weddings from other religions
In the twenty years of my life so far, I have only ever attended big, fat Punjabi weddings. I would like to attend and if possible, be a part of a catholic church wedding complete with the church and bridesmaids and bestman and more. And an islamic nikah and weddings from religions I have no idea about.
- Actually meet someone I met on the internet
This goes against the first thing our parents teach us as a child: “Don’t talk to strangers”. But in the age of the internet who hasn’t chatted with a random person you met on the social media. And for some people, online friends are more closer than real people in their life. I have met a bunch of people, so to speak, over the course of my time on the internet.
- Go on a solo trip
When I think about going on a solo trip, I dream of spending a month backpacking across Europe alone. Though considering logistics, having the means to actually do it, and parental permissions, this is one of the more difficult items to achieve in the list. But a girl can dream, right? Anywhere would do really. Even if it doesn’t involve travelling across a continent but a small hill station in my own country. The only thing required is that I should be travelling solo.
- Publish a piece of writing
Having been a reader since I was a child, getting published is THE DREAM for me. And to cross this off, I want to be able to hold my writing in my hands and not have it just on the world wide web. It could be a short story, a complete novel or an editorial article. I have heard people say to me so many times, “you say you want to get published but I’ve never seen your writing”. I think the hardest part of writing is being able to share it with people, especially people you know.
- Befriend a Stranger
Now some might say that every friend you have was once a stranger. This is technically true but I would like to befriend a stranger where we were bound to know each other like it usually is in classrooms or group chats. I would someday like to befriend a complete stranger who has no social obligation to speak to or get to know me whatsoever.
- Make a Pen Pal
Having a pen pal would be like an old tech version of an online friend. But in a letter, there are no images and filters and auto correct. And having a tangible memento of a friendship existing across the distance would feel all the more special. So if you or anyone you know is looking for a pen pal, feel free to hit me up.
I hope to accomplish at least one of these in 2019 (Still can’t believe it’s so near). I’ll keep updating this post as I think of more things to add to my list or cross off an item (which is unlikely to happen but still).
What do you have on your bucket list? Any of the above we have in common? Do share in the comments!
